  making of Star Flower garlands

 

Myanmar

In Myanmar, the small creamy white flowers (fig.) of the Star Flower Tree (fig.) are stringed and onto very thin, almost rope-like bamboo strips and made into garlands (fig.).

 

At the Kuthodaw Pagoda in Mandalay (fig.), which hosts a number of Star Flower Trees, locals sell the self-made garlands to visitors at the temple's entrance, who use them as an offering.
