Female Emerald Doves have a somewhat paler and more brown to buff complexion compared to males (fig.), and may occasionally have grey marks on the shoulder.

Their back and wings are bright emerald green with some buff to brown gloss, whilst the grey on the head of females is restricted to the eyebrows.
