The Sanskrit word Chandra is used to refer to both the Moon and the Hindu moon god, and the Thai term Chan derives from it. Notice also the dark spot on the moon's surface, which is known as the rabbit on the moon (fig.) and used as the symbol of Chanthaburi (fig.).
