Traditionally, the
bindi
consists of a
vermilion dot that symbolizes a drop of blood, applied between the
eyebrows or on the forehead of Hindu women, to indicate that they are
married. Though nowadays, often prefab stickers are used that replace the
original bindi dot and occasionally also other colours are used, that are
regarded as more fashionable, sometimes only to fit the colour of the
saree
