The Yi women living in the area of Kunming, wear a distinctive rounded hat, with triangular-shaped adornments on the sides, and a black band lined with embroidery that runs across the top.

To indicate their marital status, unmarried girls put those adornments upright on either side of the hat (picture above), whereas married women place them flat, underneath the black band (photo on the right).
