The escutcheon of
Yasothon shows a
chedi flanked
by two lions and a lotus in the foreground. The lions (singh)
refer to Ban Singh Tha, the old name of this city and the chedi is the one from
Phrathat Anon(t),
built in 675 AD.
The lotus points to the fact that this city was once an
amphur
of
Ubon
Ratchathani which has a lotus (ubon)
in its escutcheon, before becoming a provincial capital itself in 1972.
