  Wat Mahawan

Thailand

Wat Mahawan in Chiang Mai is a Buddhist temple built in a mixture of Lan Na and Burmese styles, such as the presence of a hintha pillar, i.e. a large freestanding column topped by an effigy of a hintha (fig.).

In front of the viharn stands a statue of Shin Thiwali, a deified Buddhist monk in Myanmar, and both the viharn and pagoda are guarded by Burmese-style mythological lions known as chintha (fig.) and in Thai referred to as singha (fig.).

Furthermore, it also features a statue of Shin U Pagok (fig.), a Burmese deity who presides over any body of water, here seen underneath the multiple-roofed pavilion.
