  Wat Chalo

Thailand

Uniquely, the ubosot of Wat Chalo in the amphur Bang Kruai of Nonthaburi is built on top of a concrete copy of the Golden Swan Royal Barge (fig.), which in Thai is known as Reua Phra Thihnang Suphanahong.

The temple is said to be over two hundred years old, established during the reign of the Ayutthayan King Borommakoht, though the part of the temple shaped as the royal barge dates from around the mid or late 19th century. The barge is obviously much larger than the original, as can be seen from the monk underneath the bow (fig.).
