In Nepalese tradition, the transcendental buddha Vairochana is depicted with a white complexion and seated in lotus position, whilst making the gesture of supreme wisdom by holding the right index finger in the left fist whilst the left thumb points upward. His mount is a pair of lions, which are here represented in the bottom corners of this statue.
