  Postal Garuda

This Postal Garuda, i.e. a large mythological bird holding a post horn, is depicted on the doors of the General Post Office in Bangkok (fig.).

 

The building, finished in 1940, is built in the Neoclassic and Functionalist styles, and its gable is also decorated with two large Garuda figures (fig.), reminiscent of the image used on the first Siamese Airmail postage stamps (fig.).
