Prior to the introduction
of Siam's first and own postage stamps, and until 1 January 1886, postal
services were mainly overseas, originally handled privately
by passing ships and later monopolized by the
East India
Company, and to send mail, Thailand,
then known as Siam, used
the British consular postal services of the Singapore Post Office in
Thailand, as well as their postage stamps
used for the Straits Settlements of the Malayan Peninsula,
which for Siam were overprinted with a letter B for Bangkok. There
are totally 22 of such stamps, divided into three sets, listed according to the watermark in the
paper, namely: 1. an elephant's head (1 issue); 2. a crown
and the letters CC (11 issues); and 3. a crown and the
letters CA (10 issues). |
