To publicize
the Thai Alphabet, promote national identity, raise public
awareness of the Thai language's merits, and to preserve
cultural identity. The date of 29 July reflects the date on
which King
Rama IX
once participated in a discussion with Thai language experts
from the
Chulalongkorn

The Thai Alphabet, known in Thai after its
first consonant, i.e.
ก (Ko Kai/Go
Gai). In addition to the consonants, all the vowels and some
combination letters (consonants with a vowel), i.e.
ฦ
and ฤ, are printed in the margins of the first sheet, while all
numbers, tone marks and the signs used for abbreviations
and for repetition, i.e.
ฯ and ๆ,
as well as that for silencing or changing final sounds, i.e.
อ์ (the
sign above the อ),
are printed in the margins of the
second sheet. |
