  Sooty-headed Bulbul (red vent)

PREVIOUS BIRD NEXT BIRD Thailand

A Sooty-headed Bulbul with a red vent, that is the subspecies Pycnonotus aurigaster klossi, which is rather rare, compared to the variety Pycnonotus auri-gaster thais (fig.), which occurs more commonly in Thailand.

This particular one was spotted perching on the seeds of a Lagerstroemia tree (fig.), in Mae Hong Son province. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Red-whiskered Bulbul (fig.).
