The escutcheon of
Roi Et
shows a small island in a lake. On the island stands a
prasat with in it the city pillar (lak
meuang). The lake is Palahn Chai, a large reservoir in the middle of
town containing fresh and clean water, filled to the brim the whole year round. In 1927 the lake was
excavated by the local population and thus stands as a symbol of the solidarity of the
people. The prasat with its city pillar is the most venerated shrine in town and
also its centre.
