Very toxicity spines and though listed as the most venomous fish in the world, it is unlikely to prove lethal.

Reef Stonefish are listed as the most venomous fish in the world. Its main colour can be beige, brown, grey or red, but to enhance camouflage it often has a mixture of the aforementioned colours, as well as areas of orange and yellow (fig.).

 

It lives on reef bottoms camouflaged as a rock and has 13 venomous spines, that are located on the dorsal area, and which can be lethal to humans. Despite the toxicity of its spines, its meat is consumed in several countries of eastern Asia.

VENOMOUS! Although this ray-finned fish has very toxic spines and is listed as the most venomous fish in the world, it is unlikely to prove lethal. Its sting causes severe local pain, swelling and bruising, with usually bluish skin discolouration surrounding the sting puncture mark, and symptoms that may include headache, nausea, vomiting, and collapse.
