PROVINCIAL ESCUTCHEON

Phrae

The escutcheon of Phrae shows a chedi with the relic Phrathat Cho Hae, on a horseback. According to legend the local rulers of Phrae and Nan were brothers. Whilst one was using an ox as means of transportation, the other used a horse. One day they met on the top of a mountain to define the rule of their realm and divided the region in two equal shares. Here they also decided to use their animals as the logo for their escutcheons, and each city added its own relic to it.
