Lakshmi, the
goddess of beauty and fortune, and consort to
Vishnu,
is seated on a
lotus
flower in a niche on a rooftop of the Indian temple Wat
Sri Maha Mari Amman in Bangkok. She is usually depicted seated on a
lotus, because she floated to the surface on one during the
shaking of the
Ocean of Milk.
She is also known as
Padma,
Sanskrit for lotus flower.
