Javanese Cownose Rays. They
are reminiscent of
Manta Rays or
Sea Devils (fig.),
but are
easily distinguished by their odd-looking heads,
which feature a double-lobed snout and indented forehead.
Like most rays, it has a
flattened, somewhat kite-shaped body, which is
dark above and white below.

They have a long, thin, whip-like tail, which
is distinctly demarcated from the body and armed with one or more stings.
This species is also known as the Flapnose Ray.
