Wat Asokaraam's (fig.) statue of the Indian-Mauryan Emperor Asoka, who after his conversion to Buddhism was instrumental in the propagation of the teachings of the Buddha throughout northern India, as well as far beyond his Empire, by sending Buddhist missionaries to many parts of Asia, including Southeast Asia and Ceylon.
