  Indian Gharial

Nepal

A female Indian Gharial, also known as Indian Gavial, basking in the sun near a sandbank in a river at Chitwan National Park. Females are distinguished from adult males by the lack of the bulbous growth on the nose typical in males, which resembles a clay pot to cool drinking water called ghara in Hindi and which gave the gharials their name.
