NATURE & GASTRONOMY

  Common Bulrush (seed dispersing)

Thailand

Common Bulrush flowers from May to June and reproduces by dispersing it seeds in the wind. The brown, somewhat cigar-like flowering heads disintegrate and the fluffy seeds are carried away on the current, covering anything in its path.

Even though Bulrush also reproduces vegetatively by its rhizomes, the process of dispersing its seeds in the wind is responsible for the invasion of new areas.
