Tran Quoc, an 11-storey Buddhist pagoda at
Hanoi's West Lake,
has six
niches
all around
at every level,
that each houses a white marble
Buddha image
seated in the
meditation
pose performing
a
dhyani
mudra
(fig.).
The pagoda is
crowned with
a white marble pinnacle of seven towering
and tapering
lotus
flowers, which are topped
by a
calabash,
from which a needle-like spire emerges (fig.).
