  China Pavilion 2010 World Expo

The China Pavilion at the compound of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, said to resemble an ancient imperial headdress known as mian (fig.).

 

The architect of the China Pavilion, here seen from the 492 meter high Shanghai World Financial Center, is said to have been inspired by dougong (fig.), i.e. the interlocking wooden roof brackets used in ancient Chinese architecture.

The iconic building also features as a scale model at in the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center (fig.).
