The Chiang Mai Philatelic Museum is housed in an historic building near the Ping River (fig.), that housed the former central post office of Chiang Mai (fig.), and was converted into a museum in 1990 (fig.).

Besides its indoor collection of paraphernalia related to the history of the evolution of the Thai postal service and Thai stamps, its courtyard, that doubles as a car parking, features a collection of ancient and contemporary postboxes.
