A bronze torso of the
bodhisattva
Avalokitesvara,
dating from the
Srivijayan period in the 8th
century. It shows influences from Central Java
and was found in
Chaiya.
Today it is on display in Bangkok's National Museum, whereas replicas are
found at several places throughout
Surat Thani
province (fig.). He is one of the
Eight Great Bodhisattvas
(fig.).
