Depiction of Sai Sutha Nopadon (สายสุทธานพดล)
Mansion,
a part of
Dusit
Palace, i.e. the residential compound of King
Rama V,
and located in the Royal Garden called Suan Sunandha (สวนสุนันทา),
i.e. ‘Sunandha
Garden’, where it
served as the residentince for the King's guests and visiting allies.
After the King's death in
1910,
it by 1924 had become the
residence of Princess Suthasineenat (สุทธาสินีนาฎ), one of the consorts
of King
Rama V.
When the
Princess established a school for
her
ladies in waiting in order for them to learn both etiquette and
handicrafts, the mansion became known as the Nipakarn School. Over time
this school expanded to cover various fields of education and it on 17
May 1937 officially became the Suan Sunandha School for girls, thus
laying the foundation for what eventually developed into the
present Suan Sunandha
Rajabhat University.
At present
Sai Sutha Nopadon Mansion
functions as the University's Museum, as well as its Art and Cultural
Center. Whereas the name
Suan Sunandha refers to the
name of the former Royal Garden, Rajabhat means
‘Government Official’. In the top right corner of the postage stamp is
the logo for the 80th Anniversary of Suan
Sunandha Rajabhat University, i.e. a
chadah-style
royal crown, the Thai letter S
(ส) of the name Suan Sunandha, and
the Thai number 80 (๘๐). |
