Portrait of King
Rama V,
the founder
of the King's Own Body Guard,
in a oval frame against a red background. Above, the golden
frame is adorned with the King's Royal Cipher, while below
is the emblem of the 1st Infantry Regiment, which previously
was the King's personal emblem as the commander of the
King's Own Body Guard, the regiment of which King
Chulalongkorn
is here wearing the uniform (fig.).
The emblem consists of a shield with a depiction of
Erawan,
the three-headed
elephant,
flanked on the left by a
gajasingha
holding a scimitar and on the right by a
singha
holding some
ears of rice. Underneath
it is a banner with the Thai text Rachawanlop (ราชวัลลภ),
which means
‘Royal Guards’, whilst above is a
phaan
topped with a
chadah-like crown with a glowing tip and flanked on either side by
multi-layered parasols called
chat. |
