An  octagonal trigram with a yin-yang symbol (fig.) in its centre is used for fortune telling. Trigrams can be displayed in any order and the one shown here is arranged with the three unbroken lines (☰) that represent Heaven in the Northeast, its corresponding direction, and opposite of the three broken lines (☷), that represent Earth.

Clockwise, beginning from the North this arrangement is: Wind (☴), Water (☵), Mountain (☶), Earth (☷), Thunder (☳), Fire (☲), Marsh (☱) and Heaven (☰).
