Contemporary muay thai boxing shorts, which replace the formerly used pah nung, a kind of sarong which was brought up and fold between the legs to the back, where it was stuck behind the belt (fig.).

Traditionally, the colours of the boxing shorts are either predominantly red or mainly blue, a custom that derives from the past when in Thai martial arts, one side was dressed in red and the other in blue (fig.). Nevertheless, this custom is nowadays somewhat diluted, especially in informal games. The shorts have even become a popular Thai souvenir.
