    Cinema in

Thailand with depictions from the past: 1. King

	Prajadhipok,
	who was an ardent film
	enthusiast,
	looking through the eye of
a film camera, next to a celluloid photo depicting footage of the 1897 visit of King

	Chulalongkorn
to Europe, which is the first film ever on record made about Thai people by
the French Lumiere Brothers, and entitled King of Siam’s Visit to Bern; 2.
	Prince

	Thongthaem Tawanyawong,
who pioneered filmmaking in Thailand by filming his brother King
	Chulalongkorn
	at
court and in royal ceremonies between 1900 and 1910. On his left is a
celluloid photo depicting filming equipment, as well as an announcement of
	the first ever film screening in Thailand, held in Bangkok on 10 June 1897;
	3. Old poster of the Thai movie Chok Song Chan (โชคสองชั้น),
i.e. ‘Double Luck’, the first ever silent film made by Thai people, which
featured on 30 July 1927, besides a celluloid photo
depicting a music ensemble that at that period played the film music
accompanying the movie, here shown in front of a movie theatre; 4. Old
poster of the Thai movie Long Tahng (หลงทาง), with the English subtitle
‘Going Astray’, which was the first
ever spoken feature film made by Thais, released on 1 April 1932. The
celluloid photo on the left depicts an outdoor movie shown on a giant screen
from a truck belonging to a travelling movie company. |
