  Mahayana Buddhist novices

Thai-Chinese novices practicing Mahayana Buddhism, i.e. the form of Buddhism which is today mainly practiced in countries of northeastern Asia. These off-duty novices in Bangkok are dressed in an orange jacket and long baggy kaangkaeng le trousers (fig.), though during prayers they are likely to wear a long orange robe (fig.). However, the dress for Mahayana Buddhist monks and novices differs greatly per country (fig.).
