Golden coin with an aerial depiction of the Democracy Monument and a dove that is about to land on top of the part that represents the Thai Constitution (fig.). At the bottom of the coin is the Thai date ๑๔ ตุลา ๑๖, that is: ‘14 Oct. 16’ (i.e. 2516 BE or 1973 AD), and at the top, the text phithak jetanahrom prachathipatai somboon (พิทักษ์เจตนารมณ์ประชาธิปไตยสมบูรณ์), which translates as ‘to guard with the intent for absolute democracy’ or ‘guardian spirit of complete democracy’. In the background of the coin is an aerial black-and-white photo of a large crowd with a red overlay, and on the right is Anuson Sathaan 14 Tulah, a memorial near the Thammasat University dedicated to the 77 people that lost their lives at the hands of the security forces.
