TRADITIONS & UTENSILS

  Trut Jihn

Thailand

During Thetsakahn Trut Jihn, i.e. Chinese New Year, people traditionally wear red. On the T-shirt here, the Chinese character foo (fig.), which stands for ‘blessing’, ‘good luck’ and ‘happiness’, is printed in gold.

In this annual festival, the young also buy gold (in Bangkok Thai gold) to give to senior relatives.
