Ashy Tailorbird

Common name a species of songbird bird in the family Cisticolidae, and with the scientific name Orthotomus ruficeps. It is found in many countries of Southeast Asia, including in Thailand, where it is known as nok krajib hua daeng, i.e. ‘red-headed tailorbird’. Its natural habitat consists mainly of residential and wooded areas, including also mangrove forests. Adult birds are mainly dark grey, with a rufous face and light grey to whitish underparts (fig.). Like the Common Tailorbird, this species is sometimes listed in the family Sylviidae. See also WILDLIFE PICTURES.
