  ton ngiw (flowers)

Myanmar

The Cotton Tree, which in Thai is known as ton ngiw, has orange to red flowers with five petals (fig.), that appear before the new foliage.

It blooms from January to February and when the flowers fall, the local people collect them, as the petals and the filaments of its flower's stamen, without the anther, are used in oriental cooking.
